we couldn't skin any of the existing component sets the way we wanted to. making custom cellrenderers for earlier component sets took a complete understanding of their architecture, and resulted many a times in CPU-intensive components. many of the existing component sets either required a complete framework in order to work, or they broke existing functionality. The Verso Components can take care of all the management functions (like popup and tabbing), but they also work just fine by themselves. none off the existing component sets came with full source code, let alone all the source assets. We think this is vital in making the component set your own, and being able to build upon it. Why are the Verso Components so easy to skin? they use very little assets to skin. 9-slice scaling is used to respect their ratio when resizing. all states of a component are in the timeline, so no movieclips per state. What you see is what you get. The way the component looks in authoring mode is the way it looks at runtime. more details on next page
